When the Palm Pre was revealed to sync with iTunes 8.2, Apple was quick to patch iTunes and update it to 8.2.1 to remove the Pre's iPod-posing capabilities.  Today, Palm released webOS v 1.1, which re-enables the Pre's ability to pose as an iPod to Apple's software.  The cat and mouse game has begun.
However, this fight by Apple is one that I don't understand.  Apple's main reason for making iPods sync exclusively with iTunes is that then customers are led to buy from the iTunes music, video, and app store, further increasing Apple's revenue.  The Palm Pre has a solid music player, and I would bet that many people use the Pre instead of an iPod.  In that case, the Pre's syncing with iTunes would lead more people to buy from the iTunes store, which is exactly what Apple wanted in the first place.  Maybe Apple wants Palm to pay royalty prices, but as far as I can see, this i

s a pretty good deal for Apple.
